outreach visit
Amy Madden (L) on an outreach visit with Libby Allard (R)

In honor of National Volunteer Week, we’re highlighting a few of the individuals who make our mission possible. Amy Madden is the first volunteer to kick this week off!

Amy is a proud outreach volunteer and member of our Women’s Council. She’s also the wonderful mother of 3 tremendous kids! Amy first discovered Family Reach when she joined a friend as a guest at Cooking Live!.

“When I began hearing about the mission, I wanted to get involved on a deeper level,” Amy says. “It has meant so much to me to see first hand these families at their most stressful and vulnerable times and know Family Reach is supporting them.”

Making connections

On our Women’s Council, Amy works with other determined women to continue making a difference and helping to spread the Family Reach mission. And as an Outreach volunteer, she donates her time to even more of our families through hospital visits and has the pleasure of interacting with our cancer-fighters and sharing genuine moments.

“When a parent looks at you and says they appreciate being able to talk to a doctor alone for a few minutes or make a phone call or simply close their eyes while [us volunteers] entertain and engage patients, those very small things feel tremendous in the moment,” says Amy.

Kindness goes a long way

Volunteers like Amy allow us to more comprehensively serve and connect with the families in our community. Through donated time and genuine volunteer-patient connections, our mission reaches families in a unique, lasting way.

“I would encourage people to get involved in this way because you see first hand the families Family Reach helps,” shares Amy. “You are really seeing the individuals that are being aided, having conversations and smiling together.”

Nicole Ackerman, our Family Relations Manager, has seen many times the impact Amy has had on our families.

”Amy’s commitment to Family Reach is a gift. She is one of the most genuine and caring people I’ve had the pleasure to work with,” says Nicole. “Her experience as a teacher is clear when interacting with children. We are so fortunate to have her on our team to help us bring relief to families as they face cancer treatment.”

Amy’s selflessness and courageous heart shine through in everything she does. We are truly grateful to have you as part of our close community!

“Family Reach has been the best nonprofit I have worked with. In the short amount of time I’ve been involved, I’ve seen them grow so much,” says Amy. “These people are difference makers. They are changing the lives of families that desperately need their support. I am in awe of their energy, optimism and compassion. It is infectious! How lucky I am to be a very small part of Family Reach.”
