Joanna Scott

Director of the LiFT Network

My role at Family Reach is: As the Director of the LiFT Network, my role is to identify and partner with like minded non-profits that share our vision to help as many families as possible and to eliminate financial toxicity, the problem is too large and too important to solve it alone!

Family Reach inspires me because: Everyone deserves an equal chance at living a healthy and full life, and FR is advocating for patients every day and removing barriers to treatment and recovery.

The most unusual thing I’ve done for my job is: Dress my colleague up in recyclables for our company “Project Recycled Runway” Fashion show.

When I’m not at Family Reach you can find me: At yoga with my husband or at some live music, and spending time with my six nieces and nephews and my red-headed mini-dachshund Roxie!

Most people don’t know that: I would love to drive cross country in an Airstream. Preferably a really nice one, like the one Oprah uses.

If I could spend time with one person, past or present, it would be: There are so so many! But, for sure, Gloria Steinem. She is the definition of a strong, fearless, change maker woman. I wish so much for my nieces to feel empowered, strong, and to know that they always have a voice. I highly recommend Gloria’s book, My Life on the Road, where she offers, “Taking to the road—by which I mean letting the road take you—changed who I thought I was. The road is messy in the way that real life is messy. It leads us out of denial and into reality, out of theory and into practice, out of caution and into action, out of statistics and into stories—in short, out of our heads and into our hearts.”

One item I’d like to check off my bucket list: Learn Brazilian Portuguese!
