Executive Chef Ambassador
In December 2010, Carla Tardif, the Executive Director of Family Reach, contacted Chef Ming Tsai about a young woman named Darlene, who was dying of osteosarcoma. Carla explained that one of Darlene’s last wishes was to meet Ming and have him cook for her. Touched by this request, Ming agreed, and a few weeks later Darlene and her family were treated to a special night with Ming at Blue Ginger. “She (Darlene) looked so amazing! She was in a wheelchair but she was beaming like she had no worries or problems. That I could take her mind off everything for 2 hours—it was really special,” said Ming.
Since that time, Ming has been an active, compassionate Family Reach Chef Ambassador. He frequently hosts Family Reach families at his restaurants to give them a heartfelt, nourishing reprieve from the battle against cancer. Ming has visited Family Reach hospital partners around the country, surprising pediatric oncology families with live cooking demos. In 2012, he founded and launched Cooking Live! with Ming Tsai and Friends, a one-of-a-kind event that has raised over $1 million to date. Cooking Live! has also helped raise awareness about the financial devastation a cancer diagnosis can have on a family.
Ming Tsai is the award-winning chef and owner of the restaurants Blue Ginger and Blue Dragon in Wellesley and Boston, MA. Ming has also hosted several shows on the Food Network, including Emmy Award-Winning East Meets West with Ming Tsai. He is currently the Executive Producer and host of the public television show, Simply Ming.
Ming is the author of 5 cookbooks: Blue Ginger: East Meets West Cooking with Ming Tsai, Simply Ming, Ming’s Master Recipes, Simply Ming One-Pot Meal, and his latest, Simply Ming in Your Kitchen.
