Sarcoma Research Foundation Partners with Family Reach to Extend Life-Saving Financial Support to Sarcoma Patients and their Families
Boston, MA, March 3, 2025 – The Paula Takacs Foundation for Sarcoma Research and Family Reach, a national nonprofit providing financial support to families facing cancer, announced today a partnership to increase access to financial resources for sarcoma patients across the country.
Over 800,000 people with cancer are unable to afford food, housing, utilities, and transportation each year, impacting their ability to access and adhere to cancer care. Family Reach works tirelessly to bridge this gap, providing financial resources to patients and caregivers in need. By joining forces with Family Reach, the Paula Takacs Foundation expands its mission of advancing health equity so that all sarcoma patients can benefit from treatment advances.
“A sarcoma diagnosis disrupts far more than just health; it upends every part of life,” said Christine Wade, Executive Director of the Paula Takacs Foundation. “Through this partnership with Family Reach, we’re staying true to our mission of not only funding critical research and raising awareness but also offering essential financial relief. This program ensures that North Carolina families affected by sarcoma and facing financial hardship can focus on what matters most: healing, hope, and family.”
Through this collaboration, the Paula Takacs Foundation and Family Reach will work to:
- Deliver immediate financial assistance to families impacted by sarcoma
- Connect more patients and caregivers to Family Reach’s Financial Resource Center
- Increase patients’ capacities to share financial needs and ask for help
“Collaboration is the only way to truly address health equity in cancer. We are thrilled to partner with the Paula Takacs Foundation to connect sarcoma patients in their community to life-saving financial support,” said Carla Tardif, CEO of Family Reach. “Together, we can ensure that no patient or caregiver has to choose between paying for treatment and keeping the lights on.”
This partnership underscores a shared commitment to changing the landscape of cancer care, ensuring that patients and their loved ones receive the support they need on every level. Together, the Paula Takacs Foundation and Family Reach will offer hope to countless families impacted by a sarcoma diagnosis.
About the Paula Takacs Foundation
The Paula Takacs Foundation for Sarcoma Research has been a beacon of hope for the sarcoma community since its founding in 2010 by Paula Takacs during her courageous battle with the disease. Sarcoma is a rare cancer, accounting for only 1% of adult cancers and 15% of childhood cancers, yet it receives significantly less research funding than more common cancers, slowing progress in treatment and survival.
Determined to change this reality, the foundation has raised millions to fund groundbreaking research at Levine Cancer Institute and Levine Children’s Hospital, driving advancements in treatment and diagnostics with global impact. Beyond research, the foundation amplifies awareness, builds a supportive community, and ensures that no one in our area faces sarcoma alone.
Together, we’re building a future where every sarcoma patient has access to hope, healing, and the support they deserve.
About Family Reach
Family Reach is the only national nonprofit focused solely on helping people with cancer access food, housing, utilities, and transportation. Treatment requires more than medicine — families need a roof over their heads and food on their tables to survive. We work with patients, care teams, and community-based organizations to provide immediate and ongoing financial support for these basic needs. Together we’re challenging the systems that force people to choose between their health and their homes.
