Family Reach Appoints Joel Beetsch as Board Chair

Boston, MA – April 3, 2025 – Family Reach, a national nonprofit providing financial support to families facing cancer, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Joel Beetsch, retired biopharmaceutical executive, as its new board chair.
As board chair, Dr. Beetsch will oversee board operations and work closely with Family Reach CEO Carla Tardif to guide the organization into its next phase of impact and growth. Beetsch will focus on implementing sustainable strategies to expand Family Reach’s services — helping more families overcome financial barriers to treatment and improving cancer survival rates.
“Family Reach is ready to scale to new heights, dramatically expanding our patient reach and impact through our Financial Resource Center,” said Tardif. “As cancer patients struggle to meet their basic needs, we must scale sustainably so we have something for everyone that shows up at our doorstep. Joel brings invaluable expertise, and I’m thrilled to have his leadership as we take Family Reach to the next level.”
Beetsch has spent his career leading patient-focused advocacy efforts for global healthcare companies, including Gilead, BMS, and Celgene. His extensive experience collaborating with patient, provider, payer, and policy stakeholders has helped drive access to medical innovations and improve healthcare outcomes.
“Patients and their families must always come first,” said Beetsch. “Family Reach’s deep connections with both patients and the healthcare community create a unique opportunity to develop solutions that truly change the cancer care landscape. I believe they are on the brink of something groundbreaking.”
With Beetsch’s leadership as chair, Family Reach will expand its reach, ensuring that no family has to choose between their health and financial well-being.

About Family Reach
Family Reach is the only national nonprofit focused solely on helping people with cancer access food, housing, utilities, and transportation. Treatment requires more than medicine — families need a roof over their heads and food on their tables to survive. We work with patients, care teams, and community-based organizations to provide immediate and ongoing financial support for these basic needs. Together we’re challenging the systems that force people to choose between their health and their homes.
