What do a 14-year-old osteosarcoma patient and a comedian with red lipstick have in common? An unbreakable bond formed over their love of laughter and desire to bring awareness to the financial burden of cancer.
This unlikely story began in 2015 when Family Reach hero Camille held up a sign that read, “I postponed my treatment to be here” at the performance of YouTube personality and Netflix star Colleen Ballinger (Miranda Sings). The two met and a close friendship was formed. One-and-a-half years later, Colleen live streamed a fundraiser that reaped $40,000. On Camille’s recommendation, she donated the money to Family Reach.
We ensured the funds from her generous supporters provided families battling cancer with the vital financial assistance needed to remain in their homes and maintain access to treatment.
An unbreakable connection
Colleen and Camille recently reunited in Pensacola, Florida. They were joined by our CEO, Carla Tardif, and 11-year-old Emma, an avid fan of Colleen and one of the patients who received financial assistance from her fundraiser. It was a powerful evening full of hope and gratitude.
“It was the fans, I just helped make a platform for other people to do the right thing,” said Colleen. “Out of everything in my career, one thing that I’m the most proud of is shining a light on this mission for others.”
A huge thank you to Colleen, for her tireless efforts on behalf of our families, and to all of her generous donors and supporters for becoming such an integral part of our community!
